We’ve had a fabulous week with the L’Oreal Creative Team. We’ve been introduced to the new launch of Dia Ammonia-free colour with radiant tones and hair contouring. The DIARICHESSE is ideal for first time colour and covering white hair. The DIALIGHT is specifically formulated for maximum shine and condition on coloured hair. Absolutely beautifully glossy hair.
Did you think the whole contouring obsession couldn’t get anymore, well, obsessive?. We can now contour your face with your hair. That’s right — we can style your mane, via highlights, to make your face look more chiseled and defined.
But, how is this technique — which claims to get Kardashian-esque effects without makeup — any different from the face-framing highlights people have been getting for ages? Other than the fact that it’s being dubbed “contouring,” that is.
Hair-contouring is a technique used to sculpt the head and hair shape of the desired look. It is a colouring technique that uses a combination of free hand application and highlighting paired with the careful positioning of different tones and depths around the face to highlight and shadow targeted areas. Darker tones create shadows and are used to shorten or narrow the face shape, whilst lighter tones elongate and lengthen the face shape by reflecting light. This clever placement of colour and the careful selection of complimentary tones perform an optical illusion and make your face appear more defined and features more accentuated. The ‘sculpting’ is done with hair color, as opposed to brushes and makeup. Seems as though this process shifts the focus from choosing the right haircut for your face shape to choosing the right shade for your face shape.
Thank you L’Oreal and Charlotte for fabulous training and inspiration!
